Still Wetting the Bed?
It’s Not Just a Phase and It’s Not Their Fault
If your child still wets the bed at night, we need you to know one thing first:
It’s not because they’re lazy. It’s not because you’re doing something wrong.
And they are not broken.
You’ve probably tried all the things; stop drinks after dinner, rewards for dry nights, even those loud bedwetting alarms. And still... wet sheets. Tired mornings. And big emotions, from both of you.
We want you to know there is a reason this is happening, and chiropractic can help uncover it.
The Nervous System Is in Charge, Even at Night
Bedwetting isn’t just about a full bladder. It’s about how your child’s brain and body are communicating while they sleep.
At Vive, we talk a lot about the autonomic nervous system — the part of the body that works in the background, handling everything from breathing to digestion to… yep, bladder control.
When this system is stressed or out of balance, the brain doesn’t always get the right signal that it’s time to wake up and go pee.
Showing Us the Why
This is where our Insight Scans come in. We don’t guess, we measure.
With three types of scans (heart rate variability, EMG, and thermal), we look at how your child’s nervous system is working. Are they stuck in fight or flight? Is there stress on the nerves that connect to the bladder?
These scans help us see the real reason behind your child’s bedwetting, not just treat the symptoms.
One of the most common patterns we see in bedwetting kids?
High stress patterns in the lower spine and sacral nerves, the ones that control bowel and bladder function.
Or High stress patterns in the upper cervical area which controls our Vagus Nerve – a huge nerve for our Autonomic Nervous System and Parasympathetic (rest and digest) mode.
The Hidden Factor
Another thing we check for is something many pediatricians miss: retained primitive reflexes.
Babies are born with these reflexes like the startle reflex or spinal Galant but they’re supposed to go away as their brain develops.
When they stick around too long, they can affect how a child moves, sleeps, and yes… even how their bladder works.
The Spinal Galant reflex is especially tied to bedwetting. When it’s still active, even after toddlerhood, it can trigger the bladder while the child is asleep — leading to accidents that they truly can’t control.
This Isn’t About Fixing, It’s About Freeing
When we gently adjust your child’s spine and work to integrate these reflexes, we’re not just trying to "fix" bedwetting.
We’re working to help their nervous system calm down, reset, and regulate — so their brain can send the right signals to the bladder.
The Hope You’ve Been Looking For
We see it all the time:
The kiddo who wet the bed every night for years… finally waking up dry.
The anxious 7-year-old feeling proud, not ashamed.
The mom who cried in relief because she realized it wasn’t her fault and her child wasn’t “just stubborn.”
This is why we do what we do at Vive Family Chiropractic.
If your gut is telling you this isn’t just a phase, trust that instinct.
